Kohaku Update

This year we were able to breed our Kohaku. (Female, Maruju sansai. Males Yamamatsu and Ushijima Nishikigoi sansai) . The tosai are growing fast and We will post pictures soon. We also are very happy to report that the Kohaku nisai that we purchased from Niigata in 2017 are turning into very nice sansai. Take a look and the 2017 pictures(first 4 images) and what they look like now.

These kohaku start at $400 and go up according to size and quality. Breeders are Yagenji, Marusada, and Marusho. (and of course no filters used in these photos.)

Ohana Koi Show (late post)

Sorry for the late post but Ushijima Nishikigoi entered both goldfish and koi to the Ohana Koi Show at Salt Lake Elementary.

Our koi won several categories but our Tamasamba won first prize in the single tail variety. Kinda funny but not the big one but the small one won first place. I only entered the smaller one to show the size of the bigger one.

All Japan Koi Show 2018

Ushijima Nishikikoi was lucky enough to go to the All Japan Koi Show in Tokyo, Japan. The best of the best were on display and here are some images that we took.

Marusho 2017

Like in past years the first farm that we visited was Marusho koi farm. Shosaku breeds kohaku, sanke and showa but also breads goromo, kin showa and kujyaku

We were fortunate to be able to get our Kohaku fix and picked up 16 nisai kohaku. We look forward to their arrival in Kaneohe.

Niigata 2017

Ushijima Nishikigoi has just returned from our annual koi buying trip to Niigata, Japan. The koi will be arriving in Kaneohe on 11/16 and remaining in quarantine. Can't wait. Here are a few images of our trip. Videos will be coming soon.

Goldfish Breeding Update

Here is just a little update for the goldfish that we have read this summer. Here is a picture of the Japanese shubunkin babies.

Koi Breeding Season

Ushijima Nishikigoi has gotten off to a good start to breeding season.  After a small sanke and showa hatch, we were able to have a good sized kikusui breeding and a kohaku.  We look forward to trying a few more in the next few weeks when space becomes available.  Of course with breeding season come buckets and buckets of brine shrimp.   

Breeding Season Cont.

Our second breed of goldfish, Shubunkin, has successfully bred last week. The fry are doing well and are about to move over to brine shrimp. Shubunkin have an almost blue color which makes them an attractive option for the pond or aquarium. The variety we bred are the Japanese version, which has a long fork like single tail.

Breeding Season

Summer is the time for breeding but sometimes your just can't tell the fish what to do. As the demand for goldfish rises, Ushijima Nishikigoi has started to breed more breeds of goldfish. Here is a picture of our breeding group of ryukin. Three days ago they dropped a ton of eggs and the fry are doing well.
