" Maker of Dreams"

Shintaro has one of, if not the best slogan of any Koi Farmer. The "Maker of Dreams" has some of the nicest kohaku, sanke and showas in Japan. He always seems busy due to the popularity of his koi. There were 5 or 6 guys there occupying him so we decided to come back. Turns out we didn't get a chance to come back. Maybe next year.

Niigata Shipment Has Finally Arrived

The Niigata shipment of koi finally arrived. They are at our Kaneohe farm doing well in quorintine. 

Tamasaba Goldfish

Here is a video of our Koi buying trip to Niigata, Japan. We always see Tamasaba goldfish at stores or restaurants and some breeders even have them with their koi. This video shows a few breeders, collectors and a breeder who is culling them. The end picture are our breeders that we have bred in Kaneohe, HI in the beginning of the summer of 2016. The tosai are about the size of a silver dollar and are now for sale.

Here is quick recap of the koi we purchased in October of 2016 in Niigata, Japan. The shipment will be coming in to our farm in Kaneohe, HI the beginning of December.

Yagenji 2016

This is a video and pics of our 2016 Koi buying trip to Yamakoshi, in the Niigata prefecture of Japan. This year we purchased nisai kohaku, showa, asagi, and a sansai showa.

Maruju 2016

Here is a short video of our trip to Maruju koi farm. We picked up nisai ginrin showa, sumi goromo, kohaku, showa and doitsu sanke. Some of the nisai seem small in the video but its just that the showa and goromo are so thick.

Marusada 2016

One of the places that we enjoying going to visit is Marusada. His showa are amazing. Sadao has give the business over to his son therefore we haven't purchased koi for them in a few years but this year both father and son were there to great us and show us some of their yonsai and gosai showa. We would have liked to get all three but we had to settle with one. Sorry for the poor lighting, it was pouring that day.

Marusho 2016

Our annual trip to Japan has come and gone but we are excited to get our koi in the next few weeks. This is a video of koi breeder Marusho. Shosaku is a smaller breeder but has some of the best kohaku and goromo. Although we didn't purchase any this year, he also breeds metallic koi like kin showa and kujyaku. Enjoy!!!

Tamasaba

Breeding season is all but over but don't tell that to our new tamasaba goldfish. If you have every visited Niigata, Japan to see Nishikigoi you probably have seen a small pond or aquarium with tamasaba goldfish. Sometimes the koi breeders put the large tamasaba with their koi. Their bodies are similar to ryukin but they have a long single tail. Many years ago we had some tamasaba with our koi that were at least a foot long. We have been trying to bring back tamasaba on our annual koi buying trip with no luck. It has been difficult to find a breeder that has the proper paperwork to export them. The tamasaba pictured here were a gift from a friend.

As soon as they were put into the breeding tank with the mop they started laying eggs. The fry are HUGE, compared to our other lionhead fry. We can't wait for them to grow up.

Breeding Season is Here

Ushijima Nishikigoi is in the middle of breeding season.  So far we have bred sanke and kikusui.  More pics and updates to follow.

Ushijima Nishikigoi at the Waikiki Sheraton

Recently the Waikiki Sheraton has made some upgrades to their koi pond. Ushijima Nishikigoi has brought koi hatched at our farm as well as imported koi from Yagenji, Maruju, Izumiya and more. If you are in the area check out their koi.

Maruju 2015

Looking for kohaku Ushijima Nishikigoi went to Maruju to look at tosai. We also saw a stunning ginrin showa so we had to get it.

Marusho 2015

Right down the street from the house where we stay is Marusho Koi farm. We were in Niigata for 3 days and visited Shosaku three times. It was worth it.

Yagenji 2015

Our first stop on our Koi buying trip this year was to Yagenji Koi Farm. We were able to get some nice kohaku, sanke, showa, kikusui and kinkokujyu.

Yamamatsu 2015

Ushijima Nishikigoi can't go to Niigata without a stop at the home of the Matsunosuke Sanke. We got two good sized nisai to take home.

Ojiya Koi Show

On October 31st 2015 Ushijima Nshikigoi was fortunate enough to attend the 2015 Ojiya Koi Show in Niigata, Japan. The winner was a beautiful kohaku bred by Dainichi. They also bred a showa that was the runner up.

Ushijima Nishikigoi has just returned from our annual koi buying trip to Niigata, Japan. Mushegame has never been so beautiful.

Three stunning sansai we purchased from Maruju. Female kohaku, yamabuki ogon and a male ginrin showa.

Summer Time Means It's Koi Breeding Season

The first koi to spawn in 2015 were our Kohaku. Two years ago we purchased a nisai kohaku from Maruju with the intentions of breeder her. Although she looks thin, she was able to hold a lot of eggs. We now have a large hatch. The males we used was a gosai from breeder Matsunosuke. The second male was a sansai from Yagenji and the third male was a yonsai bred here at Ushijima Nishikigoi.

We transfer the eggs to another pond to hatch.

A few days later our showa bred. The female (1st from the left) is from breeder Igarashi. The males (2nd 3rd and 4th from the left) came from Isa and 2 from Maruju.

Not to be left out our Chocolate Oranda bred and dropped their eggs before we could put them in the breeding tank. The Fry hatched today.

Niigata 2013 Update

Here are some pictures of our 2014 Niigata shipment.  They have grown a lot since they came tour farm in Kaneohe.  The high quality food has also brought out their color.

All Japan Koi Show

Last weekend we were able to go Ritsu Center in Tokyo, Japan for the All Japan Koi Show.

"The Sakais (and Bruce)" Toshio Sakai(Nishikigoi Center Isawa, Japan), Bruce Ushijima(Ushijima Nishikigoi Kaneohe, HI), Shogo Sakai(Former Koi Breeder and Mayor of Yamakoshi), and Toshiyuki Sakai (Yamamatsu Koi Farm Niigata, Japan).

Here is a video of some of the koi we saw. Towards the end of the video at 9:54 there are a few exhibits that show 4 and 5 year old koi and how huge they are. Believe it or not.

The Niigata Shipment Has Arrived

The koi have just arrived in Kaneohe and we are delighted to have them here. They will be in quarantine for the next few weeks. During that time we promise to take better pictures.

Niigata 2014: Matsunosuke Sanke

This year we went to one of our favorite breeders to look and saw many beautiful koi. A few nisai sanke stood out and we needed to decide which ones to get. We decided on taking all three. Keep in mind the blue bucket is twice a large as some of the other breeder's bucket. These nisai are huge.
